College and university off-campus housing offices have been partnering with apartment search websites to help their students find accommodations.
Beverly Hills, CA (Vocus) July 28, 2010
The Rentables (therentables.com), an online apartment rental listing service, has been working closely with colleges and universities throughout North America to offer a useful resource for students seeking off-campus housing. Pavel Tchourliaev, one of the founders of The Rentables explains: “We have designed the website around simple filtering of search results in terms of location and pricing. Students can easily narrow thousands of search results to find those closest to their campus and then compare those units side-by-side within seconds. If a certain type of unit is not available, students can subscribe to a customized RSS feed based on their filter settings and receive instant notification as these type of units are listed for rent.”
Over the past year The Rentables has partnered with several large rental listing providers to combine available listings across North America. Potential tenants now have a “one stop shop” to find the exact type of rental they want. Schien Dong, another of The Rentables’ founders and lead developer at the firm states: “With our main focus being usability, we have integrated as much technical capability into the website as possible without sacrificing speed. We want to save our users time by giving them intuitive and powerful features.”
Most universities and colleges offer off-campus housing resources to their students, and by partnering with apartments for rent websites, school administrators have increased the relevance of the resources they provide.
The Rentables launched nationwide in July 2009 and has already helped over 50,000 landlords fill their vacancies online. Contact The Rentables to learn more about how you can provide a valuable new off-campus housing resource to your students free of charge.

By simplifying the process for both landlords and tenants alike, The Rentables has emerged as a major player in the online rental listings business.
(Vocus) July 13, 2010
In the competitive market of apartment rental listings, it can be difficult to stand out. A recent start-up, The Rentables (therentables.com), has taken a fundamentally different approach to providing these listings and has become a cutting edge competitor within a year of its launch.
Andrew C. MacDonald, one of four partners in the company explains: “As owners of income properties, we must market our own properties when vacancies occur. After using other online rental listing services, we realized that most existing rental websites are just not making the process easy and effective. The Rentables aims to make it very simple for landlords to post and manage ads for one or multiple units through a very streamlined process. We’ve spent hundreds if not thousands of hours designing the page flow to make our site as intuitive and fast as we can. There are some very neat features such as interactive filters and side-by-side unit comparison, which not only help tenants in their selection, but also helps landlords determine fair rents for their property.”
The Rentables gives landlords a choice of whether or not to create an account, keeping the posting process very quick. Landlords appreciate this approach and over 48,000 listings have been posted throughout North America. In addition to the listings posted directly to TheRentables.com, visitors can browse thousands more listings from numerous partner sites, which provides a comprehensive selection of rental properties for tenants.
“We have created a website that offers an improved experience for both landlords and tenants, and best of all, it’s free,” states Mr. MacDonald.
Incorporated in August 2009, The Rentables now serves thousands of visitors each month. Andrew believes that traffic will continue to increase significantly over the next six months as more and more people continue to become familiar with the benefits that the site offers to both landlords and tenants. Visit TheRentables.com to find your next apartment for rent online.

Over the past few months we have been working hard to tweak our service based on user feedback. Here is a list of changes that have taken place so that the website can serve you better:
- Ability for landlords and property managers to post online rental listings with or without an account (using the dual-screen login)
- Updated account control panel for landlords and property managers making it easy to manage more than 1 listing
- Updated search engine friendly URLs for each post to ensure listings can be found on Google
- New footer menu with more relevant links
- New “Featured Advantage” page explaining the benefits of featuring your listing
- New “Advertise with Us” page to explain our new geo-targeted
- New Publisher API allowing other websites to embed The Rentables into their own site to display only their own units, or units meeting any user defined criteria
- Bug fixes to take care of compatibility issues or minor annoyances as reported by our users
Thank you for constantly providing us your feedback. We take your suggestions to heart, and work hard to ensure we provide the easiest classified website to use for all of our users.

Today The Rentables was featured in an article in the Toronto Star. Also mentioned were co-founders Pavel Tchourliaev, Schien Dong and Andrew MacDonald as well as Toronto area real estate sales representative Elena Fort. After working hard to develop The Rentables throughout 2009 and establish a foothold, the team has shifted its focus in 2010 to growing our user base. As more people are aware of the service we offer, we are confident our site will explode in popularity. Simply put, The Rentables offers a better online rental listing search experience for its tenant users, and a simpler more streamlined posting process for its landlords and property managers. The more users our site has, and the more postings our site has, the more useful the site becomes for all parties involved.
We are at a level where TheRentables.com is a great resource to advertise your unit for rent or search for a new rental unit as a tenant. Best of all, both tenants and landlords can use our service free of charge, so be sure to check it out next time you are in the housing rental market, and be sure to tell your friends!

Last month we announced some new schools participating in our University Campaign just in time for the back-to-school season. More recently, LA Music Academy joined our program to offer rental listings to students in the area surrounding campus via a new vanity URL:
www.therentables.com/go/lamusicacademy. This new resource can be seen on the LA Music Academy Housing Assistance page.
We look forward to helping students find LA Music Academy off-campus housing. To find out more about how this campaign works, or how your school can participate, see The Rentables University Edition landing page for more details and a quick (2min) overview video.

The Rentables was reviewed by 163.com, a very popular Chinese web portal run by NetEase.

This represents our first review by a foreign source, and although we do not yet offer our services outside of North America, we are pleased to be featured on 163.com.

In our most recent campaign we’ve started to partner with colleges and universities to provide off-campus housing resources for their students. To find out more about how this campaign works, or how your school can participate, see The Rentables University Edition landing page for more details and a quick (2min) overview video.
We are pleased to be working with four new schools for the new Fall 2009 semester beginning in just a couple weeks. To assist students in finding off-campus housing for the upcoming school year, we have created a custom vanity URL for each participating school. These links take students directly to their campus on the map at TheRentables.com, and allow users to begin exploring listings surrounding their campus.
Each of the following schools have recently signed on with our campaign, and have posted links for their students:
Gnomon School of Visual Effects
Gnomon Housing
http://www.therentables.com/go/gnomon
Guilford College
Guilford Off Campus Living
http://www.therentables.com/go/guilford
Harvey Mudd College
Harvey Mudd Off-Campus Housing
http://www.therentables.com/go/hmc
Wells College
Wells Residence Life
http://www.therentables.com/go/wells
We look forward to helping students of these schools find off-campus housing, and to working with additional schools to further extend this service. For more information, please see The Rentables University Edition.

The Rentables was reviewed again last week. This time, our site was picked up by KillerStartups.com in a brief article discussing some of the key benefits of our site. The article focuses on our explore vs. search approach to finding online rental listings, and the availability of real-time data in our system; 2 important features which both improve our user experience.
Our method of exploring a neighborhood for rentals is much closer to how we look for apartments in real life. First, you get to the area you’re interested in, and second you start exploring that area looking for a certain type of property in which you are interested. Using our interactive search filters to narrow results in any area makes this process very easy. Furthermore, having real-time data limits the need to call for availability. When you find a unit you like, you can add it to your favorites list, compare your favorites side-by-side, and finally make a decision on which property you’d like to see first. As the review on KillerStartups.com puts it “Those looking for a property to rent are certain to appreciate the practicality of exploring units in real time like this.” In order to make the most of this review, we’d like you to take a moment to vote for TheRentables.com on KillerStartups.com. You can see the article, and vote for us here: TheRentables.com – Finding Property To Rent Online. Thank you for your support, and we look forward to offering our users continued innovation to maintain our status as a Killer Start-Up.

Last week Larry Hochman of Pad Your Paycheck sat down with our very own Anton Pavlov for an interview. The exchange touched on topics such as Anton’s background, how The Rentables came to be, and future plans for business success and continued personal development. Rather than jumping into the corporate world straight out of University, Anton stuck to his vision of being an entrepreneur and began working full-time on further developing The Rentables.
